Socialization is necessary for your overall well-being!

Individuals with Parkinson's disease have been shown to experience impaired general social functioning and reduced ability to fulfill social roles (Perepezko et al., 2019). PD symptoms, along with perceived stigmas can often lead to social withdrawal (Soojung et al., 2022). Unfortunately, when social isolation or social withdrawal increases, severity of symptoms is often noted to increase and in turn lead to lower reported quality of life (Fothergill-Misbah et al., 2022). These discussed risk factors can increase risk for depression, cognitive decline, and overall mortality and well-being (Perepezko et al., 2019).

Some studies have reported that while self-stigmas may be present in the early stages of disease, these tend to decrease over time depending on how they are dealth with from person to person (Lin et al., 2022).
